Half Moon is proud to offer a diversified program in sports, arts and enrichment areas. We wish to involve the camper in a variety of the many activities offered therefore activities are chosen by the camper on a weekly basis. All campers will be scheduled for a daily swim lesson. A free period is an opportunity for campers to participate in activities just for pleasure. The Camp's program emphasizes instruction rather than high competition. Campers are given time to practice and are encouraged to recognize all improvements as a measurement of success.
The Half Moon Philosophy is based on six principles: Structure, Social Values, Sound Learning Skills, Spirit, Guidance and Individuality.
Structure: Half Moon provides a safe, orderly environment conducive to teaching and learning while having fun. Following a weekly schedule helps campers to learn independence and responsibility.
Social Values: Counselors are trained in providing a supportive atmosphere to help campers clarify values and become more confident meeting social challenges.
Sound Learning Skills: Our program stresses skill improvement rather than high competition. The skills for each activity are presented sequentially in easy to understand language. Campers are given time to practice and are encouraged to recognize all improvements as a measure of success. Our goal is to encourage campers to develop skills that they can use throughout their lives.
Spirit: The spirit of Half Moon evolves through the development of interpersonal relationships and the pride of belonging. Through weekly campfires, group sing-ins and team involvement campers build spirit through participation and friendship.
Guidance: Campers receive guidance in the routines of daily living, activity choices and social relationships. The need for discipline is viewed as an opportunity to guide and help children understand the appropriateness of their behavior in a given situation. It is the goal of all Half Moon staff to build a child's spirit through understanding and good fellowship.
Individuality: Our goal is to help each camper find his/her niche among peers and within activities. Recognition of individual achievement in the presence of peers builds one's self image in a way not achievable by any other method.
