An educational camp devoted to the fine and performing arts, Belvoir Terrace offers girls a unique creative experience on its beautiful wooded campus in the heart of the idyllic Berkshire Hills, home to renowned cultural attractions as Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, Shakespeare and Company and the Clark Institute. Belvoir's seven week program provides an ideal environment in which to develop skill, creativity and self confidence through art, music, dance and theater.
Open to girls who have completed grades three through eleven, the program emphasizes individual choice. Each camper works with the directors precamp to develop a program that excites and challenges her. Within the diverse program it is possible to choose ten different activities; to focus on one or two program areas;or to mix for example, acting, dancing and singing. Although the program is flexible, it is also structured, each class meeting a minimum of three times per week. Many classes meet daily and it is possible to spend all or most of the day in art classes, in theater activities, in dance studios or even in the pool or on the tennis courts.Careful programming ensures placement in small classes graded both by age and skill level. Skill is not a prerequisite, but an outgrowth of the program.
Belvoir's arts curriculum is complimented by an excellent sports program. Quality in depth instruction is available in swimming, tennis and riding. Fitness, soccer, basketball, and outdoor education are also offered. The program is responsive to camper interest so last summer fencing was part of the curriculum.
Accomodations at Belvoir are exceptional. The younger girls live with their counselors in the main house in large gracious bedrooms with adjoining tile baths. Girls who have completed grades six through nine live in three age specific dormitories. Each of these buildings have five bunks that accomodate six to eight girls with adjoining counselors' rooms. Every bunk has either an adjoining modern bath or a dorm bath with multiple toilet stalls, sinks and showers. The oldest campers enjoy a modern air-conditioned house with six bedrooms, living room, kitchen and staff rooms. All campers share the large living rooms and porches of the main house which are ideal for socializing and practicing. Excellent food is served family style in the dining room of the main house. Six salad bars offer variety and choice at every meal.
It is the combination of the individually structured program, quality professional staff, excellent and complete facilities, close supportive community atmosphere, and select campership that make Belvoir Terrace a happy, challenging and fun experience for every camper. Whether the camper wants to paint, pot, dance, sing, act,or improve her tennis game, she can follow her dreams at Belvoir Terrace.
